THOMAS. One of ten clones created by Dr. Mindbender when trying to create Serpentor. Thomas was named for Storm Shadow, aka Thomas Arashikage, due to the fact that a then-believed dead Storm Shadow was included in the mix of warriors and conquerors whose DNA helped create Serpentor. named for Philip of Macedonia. The nine young clones would grow at a slower rate than normal, and Mindbender nearly abandoned them once he perfected the process to create the mature clone that became Serpentor, but instead placed them in stasis and left them alive unbeknownst to Cobra Commander. Each clone was the amalgamation of history's greatest soldiers. After the defeat of Cobra in the 1995, the U.S. government raided Mindbender's secret lab on Cobra Island and recovered the clone children. They were placed in foster care until Serpentor and Dr. Mindbender gathered them in secrecy. All the children joined Serpentor on Cobra Island during a battle between his forces and Cobra and G.I. Joe. After the battle, Philip and the other boys were again placed in the care of the government. (GIv2 24, 25)

THUNDER. The code name used by U.S. Army Sergeant Matthew Harris Breckinridge. Thunder grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, next to a foundry, which probably explains his fondness for loud noises. He had a passion for heavy metal rock and roll and became a drummer. After joining the Army, Thunder specialized in artillery to "hear them go bang". Thunder later joined the G.I. Joe team where he drove the Slugger "self-propelled artillery" tank. He joined the team a short time before the Joes invaded Springfield. He was one of the few Joes who stayed behind to guard Joe headquarters during that invasion and keep watch over an imprisoned Zartan. Later, while the Joes were without a base, Thunder was one of a group of Joes testing new vehicles and weapons in the Utah desert. His many other missions included the Cobra Island civil war. Thunder's final mission began as a supposedly simple raid on Cobra Terror-Dromes in the desert nation of Trucial Abysmia. The mission went sour when the Joes stumbled upon a large contingent of Cobra soldiers and vehicles. Thunder drove one of the group's armored vehicles. The team was captured and held prisoner by Cobra. A SAW-Viper, misunderstanding orders, killed several of the Joes in cold blood. Thunder was one of the first. He and his fellow Joes were given heroes' funerals in Arlington National Cemetary. Many years later at Arlington, Thunder's name was included on a new memorial dedicated to the fallen members of the G.I. Joe team. (GI 51, 59, 76, 108, 109; GIv2 26; Figure: 1)

TIMBER. A wolf who befriended Snake-Eyes while the commando lived in his cabin in the High Sierras. Though Timber became a pet to Snake-Eyes, he remained a wild animal and usually stood guard at the cabin when Snake-Eyes was away. Hawk and Stalker were met by Timber when they first asked Snake-Eyes to join the newly-formed G.I. Joe team. Because Snake-Eyes rarely left his land and a wolf was his constant companion, some of the people in the tiny town at the foot of the mountains sometimes referred to Snake-Eyes as a werewolf. When Snake-Eyes' cabin was attacked by Destro, Firefly and Fred Broca, Timber helped his friend, pouncing on Destro before he could shoot Snake-Eyes. In the battle that followed, Snake-Eyes pulled Timber into the hidden trap door beneath his cabin as it exploded. Over a year later, Storm Shadow arrived at the wreckage of the cabin to spend some time alone. He was worried to find Timber growling at him, but the wolf soon picked up Snake-Eyes' scent on the ninja and welcomed him as a friend. When Scarlett arrived, seeking Storm Shadow's help in saving Snake-Eyes from the Cobra Consulate in New York, Timber joined the rescue mission. He was hidden away in a large vacuum cleaner tank being pulled by Scarlett, who was disguised as a cleaning lady. When Scarlett's identity was exposed, a group of Cobra soldiers had the bad luck of discovering Timber, as well. Years later, Snake-Eyes, Scarlett, Storm Shadow and Jinx took some time off at the site of the cabin. As they sat around a campfire, Timber approached, an arrow in his side and a red cloth in his teeth. He had been shot by a group of Red Ninjas coming to kill Storm Shadow. The ninjas were defeated after a fight, and Timber was given the treatment he needed to recover from his injuries. Timber lived to a very old age, spending several more years on watch at the cabin, with or without Snake-Eyes. About a year after the Joe team was shut down in 1994, Timber died while Snake-Eyes and Scarlett were living in a newly-built cabin. They buried him in the mountains, not far from the cabin. Before passing away, Timber fathered a litter of wolf pups, many of whom still live near the cabin today. (GI 27, 31, 32, 52, 90, 91, 145, 149; YB 3; FL 4)

T'JBANG. The code name used by U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Sam LaQuale. Born in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, T'Jbang is Storm Shadow's second cousin and learned the art of ninjitsu from his family. He learned to use a sword from the clan's master swordsman. He forged his own sword, preciselt balanced for the secret technique known as "Silent Backlash". In the Army, T'Jbang became a helicopter pilot. For reasons unknown, he has taken an oath of silence. He was eventually recruited for the G.I. Joe Ninja Force by Storm Shadow. On Ninja Force's first mission, T'Jbang and his teammates Dojo and Nunchuk fought Cobra Night Creepers in Beirut while helping Destro to avoid assassins hired by Cobra Commander. Continuing their protection of Destro, the Ninja Force and other Joes traveled to the Silent Castle in Trans-Carpathia, where they fought Cobra Vipers and a group of Red Ninjas. It was the Ninja Force who discovered Firefly's connection to the Arashikage ninjas when the mercenary appeared in command of the Red Ninjas. The team later helped liberate the Cobra-controlled town of Millville from Cobra, fighting a band of Night Creepers. Shortly before the G.I. Joe team was shut down, T'Jbang and the Ninja Force opened up a martial arts training school on the site of the Soft Master's restaurant where T'Jbang's teammate, Dojo, had been trained many years before. The school was free to the underpriviledged young people living in the neighborhood. (GI 117, 118, 120-124, 126, 128-131, 135-137, 140, 141, 144, 145; GIv2 27; MA 1, 2, 4; AE 8-15; Figure: 1)

TOLLBOOTH. The code name used by U.S. Army Sergeant Chuck X. (for nothing) Goren. Tollbooth grew up in Boise, Idaho, and at age six his parents gave him a construction set for Christmas. He wore that out before he was seven and came to love building. Every year his sets got bigger and more complicated until he outgrew them all. He started building for real and enevtually received his Master degree in engineering from MIT. When he decided he wanted a bigger challenge, he joined the Army and became a combat engineer, hoping to be part of the G.I. Joe team. He eventually did just that, signing on to drive the Joes' Bridge-Layer He joined the Joes some time before the team's invasion of the Cobra-controlled town of Springfield. He was one of the few Joes who stayed behind to guard Joe headquarters during that invasion and keep watch over an imprisoned Zartan. Some time later, after the Pit was destroyed, Tollbooth put his engineering skills to good use as he helped build the new Pit III in the Utah desert. His many other missions for the team included the Cobra Island civil war, where he was part of a convoy of reinforcements. (GI 51, 62, 76, 77; Figure: 1)

TOPSIDE. The code name used by U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer John Blanchet. Topside was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana and grew up on a farm where he and his father raised pigs that won numerous prizes at county fairs, gaining the reputation as Fort Wayne's Hog Master. At age 20, Topside looked for a more exciting career and joined the Navy. While serving as deck hand on a ship transporting a G.I. Joe covert ops team to a mission, and grew tired of their tales of toughness. After he decided to take them all on, he gained the Joes' notice and was eventually offered a spot on the team. Topside served with the Joes for a short time before the team was disbanded in 1994. Some time after the team was reinstated in 2001, Topside took part in the Joes' battle against a revived Serpentor on Cobra Island. (GIv2 24; Figure: 1)

TORCH. Tom Winken was born in Botany Bay, New South Wales, Australia, and was sent to Borstal (reform school) at age fourteen. He escaped and joined the Merchant Marines, where he learned to use an oxy-acetylene cutting torch. "Torch" later joined the Melbourne Maulers motorcycle gang, and eventually made his way into the Dreadnoks. Like most other Dreadnoks he simply loves violence and simply tearing things apart. Torch was also very much afraid of Zartan, though he could be coaxed into disobeying him, such as the time Buzzer stole Zartan's motorcycle to go joyriding, and convinced Torch to come along. He was one of the three Dreadnoks -- with Buzzer and Ripper -- who traveled to the United States with Zartan, who had begun working for Cobra. Torch and the Dreadnoks came up against the Joes again and again, serving as Zartan's destructive henchman. After working with Cobra for years, the Dreadnoks were reorganized into a national biker gang led by Zartan. In 2001, they began working again with Cobra and renewed their fight against the G.I. Joe team. After a battle in the streets of Washington against the Joes and a new, advanced BAT, Torch and many of the original Dreadnoks were arrested and held in Blackwater Prison. They were eventually freed due to the legal machinations of Tomax and Xamot and went on to join in the battle against the forces of a revived Serpentor on Cobra Island. They later freed Zartan from a military facility where he was being held prisoner. Over a year later, he and others fought Duke and General Rey when they came looking for information about Rey's past from Zandar. (for more information about Buzzer, see Dreadnoks) (GI 24, 25, 28, 30, 32, 33, 35, 38, 47-52, 54, 55, 64, 73-77, 79, 81, 89, 90, 91, 93; GIv2 1, 2, 10-13, 27, 31, 39; BF 2; FL 1, 2, 10; AE 5, 6, 19, 20; DDH; Figures: 1, 2)

TORPEDO. The code name used by U.S. Navy Chief Warrant Officer Edward W. Leialoha. Torpedo grew up in Aiea, Hawaii, where he learned to surf at a young age. He became a skilled diver and worked as a scuba instructor before enlisting in the Navy. By age nineteen, he received three black belts in martial arts (Wu-Shu, Kenpo and Go-Ju-Ryu). After entering the Navy, he completed the SEAL training program and trained in demolitions. He eventually joined the G.I. Joe team, becoming the first Navy man on the team. On his first mission with the team, Torpedo headed to Sierra Gordo to rescue a number of Joes who were stuck in the small nation after escaping from Cobra. Torpedo served on many missions at sea and on land, including battling Cobra in Washington, DC, and evading Cobra's high command in the Florida Everglades. Some time later, Torpedo joined Snow Job in a battle with a Cobra base on a small island, onboard the Joe hovercraft. There, he and Snow Job beat the Cobras again and again, leaving their base in shambles. But what the two Joes didn't realize was that the Cobras had kept the secret that they had been ordered to protect. That mission led to the creation of Cobra Island, after which Torpedo was one of the many Joes to fight in a battle with Cobra to try and push them off of the island before it became a sovereign nation. Later, Torpedo was one of the many Joes to participate in the invasion of the Cobra-controlled town of Springfield. He served on many more missions over the years, fighting the October Guard in the Baltic Sea and once again on a covert mission to Cobra Island, piloting a landing craft in the Cobra Island civil war, and defending the Pit in Utah from an attack led by Cobra Commander himself. He was shot in the leg during that attack, but soon recovered and stayed with the G.I. Joe team until it was shut down in 1994. Some time after the team was reinstated in 2001, Torpedo and many other former Joes joined the team in an attack on Cobra Island, fighting the forces of a revived Serpentor. (GI 13, 16, 18, 22, 25-28, 36, 40, 48-50, 76, 129, 131; YB 2; OB 2; SM 1; SM:A; Figures: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

TRIPWIRE. The code name used by U.S. Army Sergeant Tormod S. Skoog. After being born in Hibbing, Minnesota, Tripwire moved on to a naval base in Yokosuka, Japan where his father served. While there, Tripwire dropped out of high school and spent two years pondering the meaning of life in a Zen monastery. He was expelled from the monastery for breaking too many dishes and spilling every possible liquid, thanks to his being naturally clumsy and nervous. He enlisted in the Army at age 19 and found his true spiritual awakening on the grenade range. He discovered that the only time he wasn't jittery and awkward was while working with high explosives. They actually seemed to calm him down. He became an expert in explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) and demolitions after training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He eventually was assigned to the G.I. Joe team. On his first mission for the Joes, Tripwire helped battle Cobra in the streets of Washington, DC. Other missions included fighting off Cobra's invasion of Fort Wadsworth, and evading Cobra's high command in the Florida Everglades. While on board the Joes' freighter, the Jane, Tripwire risked his life to save his teammates by throwing himself on a soon-to-detonate bomb. Roadblock took the bomb from Tripwire and tossed it overboard, while commending his bravery and telling him never to do anything like that again. Some time later, Tripwire was back onboard the Jane during a Cobra Rattler attack. Tripwire and a few other Joes barely survived by taking out the Rattlers. Unfortunately, the freighter was too badly damaged and the Joes were forced to abandon ship as the Jane sunk beneath the ocean. Tripwire and the others were rescued soon after. Tripwire participated in many more operations over the years, including the battle to push Cobra off of the newly-formed Cobra Island, the invasion of the town of Springfield, the capture of a Terror-Drome in Sierra Gordo, the Joes' involvement in the Cobra Island civil war and the defense of Cobra's attack on the Pit in Utah. Tripwire served with the Joes until the team was shut down in 1994. He later made his way to Philadelphia where he served on the police department's bomb squad, and became something of a local hero.  After the G.I. Joe team was reinstated in 2001, Tripwire rejoined once the Joes took over the abandoned Philadelphia Navy Yards and made a small base there. His missions with the new team included stopping Cobra from getting their hands on a stolen nuclear device, and helping stop a terrorist plot by Tyler Wingfield. Tripwire was later one of the many Joes who took part in an attack on Cobra Island to battle the forces of a revived Serpentor. Some time later, after the Joes stopped a plot by Cobra to unleash the weapon known as the Tempest, and defeated a new threat, the Red Shadows, the military again disbanded the team. One year later, the Joe team was reformed with a smaller roster of active members. Tripwire, like most former Joes, is a reserve member of the new team. (GI 16, 17, 19, 22, 25-29, 36, 40, 41, 48-50, 52, 56, 74, 75, 131; GIv2 8, 24; FL 11, 12; Figures: 1, 2, 3, 4)

TUNNEL RAT. The code name used by U.S. Army Sergeant Nicky Lee. Tunnel Rat's diverse family tree is Trinidadian Chinese with Irish, Spanish and Indian. He grew up on the mean streets of Brooklyn, toughened up on Fort Benning's Ranger Course, and even more in action in Grenada. Tunnel Rat is also a trained explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) expert and combat engineer. His fearless attitude keeps him ready to crawl through an enemy tunnel ready for a fight. Despite all this meanness, Tunnel Rat retains a sense of humor and is easy to get along with off duty. On his first mission for G.I. Joe, Tunnel Rat worked with a weapons research and testing team in the Utah desert. When the group packed up and headed out on the road, their convoy was forced to fend off an attack from the new Cobra Pogo vehicle, piloted by Cobra Commander himself. In his other missions, Tunnel Rat later helped knock out power to the Cobra Consulate from the sewers below, and went on a near disastrous mission to find a traitor and spy in Southeast Asia. Months later, Tunnel Rat joined a team of Joes onto Cobra Island on a reconnaissance mission. They stumbled upon Cobra's civil war and when the Joes entered the war on the side of Serpentor, Falcon's team became advance scouts for the Joes' invasion and had to forcibly take control of Cobra Island's airfield control tower to allow their teammates access to the airfield. When Destro's army forced the team into the sewers, Tunnel Rat took the point through the island's sluice tunnels during a rainstorm as the water rose dangerously higher. By the time Tunnel Rat and the others joined up with the rest of the Joe team, the battle was over. Over the years, Tunnel Rat continued on many missions for the team, including the Battle of Benzheen, defending the Pit from Cobra attack and liberating the Cobra-controlled town of Millville. After the Joe team was shut down in 1994, Tunnel Rat returned home to Brooklyn where he worked with underpriviledged kids in his old neighborhood. When the team was reinstated in 2001, Tunnel Rat signed on as a reserve member and finally rejoined his teammates to battle against the forces of a revived Serpentor on Cobra Island. Some time later, after the Joes stopped a plot by Cobra to unleash the weapon known as the Tempest, and defeated a new threat, the Red Shadows, the military again disbanded the team. One year later, the Joe team was reformed with a smaller roster of active members. Tunnel Rat, like most former Joes, is a reserve member of the new team. He was called back to duty to stop a group of terrorists who had taken control of a Cobra biological weapon facility in Manhattan.
