| DOMESTIC OPERATIONS AGENCY. An agency of the federal government
whose agents often worked as the "stooges" of the secret committee of Army
generals known as "the Jugglers". The DOA was charged with rounding up
fugitive members of the G.I. Joe team by corrupt General Malthus, who had
already arrested most of the team following the Cobra civil war debacle.
Malthus was trying to cover up the fact that he had authorized the Joes'
participation in the failed operation and had also locked Hawk and General
Hollingsworth in a Virginia hospital for psychiatric evaluation. The entire
hospital staff was replaced by DOA agents, who engaged in a firefight with
the Joes attempting to rescue their commanders. (#78)
Years later, the DOA hired a small group of mercenaries to eliminate Storm Shadow and Stalker, who were on the run from the Jugglers' leader at the time, General Crowther (#106-107). It is unknown whether the DOA continues to work for the committee, which now includes Hawk as a member. |

| DRUG ELIMINATION FORCE. A small team of Joes charged with wiping out major drug dealing operations. The DEF was a combined federal law enforcement and military group, led by federal marshall and former DEA agent codenamed Bullet-Proof. In addition to Bullet-Proof, the team consisted of Cutter, Shockwave, Mutt and Junkyard. The team fought against the drug lord known as Headman and his henchman known as Headhunters. Headman had set up a drug-dealing business in Broca Beach, a seaside town secretly controlled by Cobra. The team rid Broca Beach of drugs without even realizing Cobra's involvement in the town (#124-125). Eventually, led the DEF in tracking down one of Headman's drug shipments. Headman himself was bringing drugs into New York when the DEF caught up with him, chasing his boat through nearby waters. In the end, it was Cobra Commander himself who saw to Headman's final defeat, using the commandeered military laser installation hidden in the Chrysler Building. Headman's vessel was destroyed before the DEF's eyes (#127). The Joe team's Drug Elimination Force was discontinued shortly thereafter. |
