ALTITUDE. The code name used by U.S. Army Sergeant Major John-Edward O. Jones. Born in Cambria, California, Altitude was a full-blooded Apache and the some of a famous Hollywood stuntman. He was gifted with a photographic memory and a talent for drawing. His first career as a cartoon animator was cut short by the collapse of syndicated cartoon programming and decided to enlist in the Army. As a recon scout, Altitude can make detailed maps and sketches of military installations while in the field when electronic surveillance may be inappropriate. He occasionally worked with the G.I. Joe team, as part of the Sky Patrol, before it was shut down in 1994. He was called back to duty when the reinstated Joe team fought the forces of a revived Serpentor on Cobra Island. Today, like many Joes, Altitude is a reserve member if the team. He was assigned to G.I. Joe's quick reaction force during the conflict known as World War III, eventually taking part in fighter operations launched from the U.S.S. Flagg.

One of many Joes listed on World War III member assignment map first seen in AE #28.

Altitude is a different character than the action figure named "Major Altitude".
