 XMLR-3A. An advanced version of the experimental laser military rifle. The XMLR-3A was a more compact weapon that its predecessor in the field, the 1A. Designed to be a different type of weapon, the 3A sacrificed some of the power of the 1A to make a more flexible weapon, which no longer required a backpack power source. The rifle was again tested by the G.I. Joe team, but while the 1A was used by an engineer (Flash), the 3A was tested by Snow Job, one of the team's most skilled snipers. Other models followed, but laser rifles have yet to be made cost-efficient enough to use in general combat situations.
This rifle seems to be the basis for the rifle used most often in the original G.I. Joe cartoon series.
