AIRWAVE. The code name used by U.S. Army Master Sergeant Cliff V. Mewett, born in Louisville, Kentucky. He worked with the G.I. Joe team before it was shut down in 1994, as audible frequency specialist of the Sky Patrol. He also served as Signal Corps adjutant to the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He was not only skilled with operating radio communications equipment, but could build a radio out of spare parts with ease. Today, like many Joes, Airwave is a reserve member of the team. He was assigned to G.I. Joe's quick reaction force during the conflict known as World War III.

One of many Joes listed on World War III member assignment map first seen in AE #28.

Note that Airwave has the same file name as Colonel Courage, a character released three years later, but is obviously not meant to be the same person.
