TRACKER. The code name used by U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer Christopher R. Groen, born in Helena, Arkansas. After enlisting in the Navy, Groen became a S.E.A.L. and an underwater arms developer. He joined the G.I. Joe team before it was shut down in 1994. Tracker impressed the instructors in his indoctrination course to join the team when he totally eluded them in the "escape and evasion" phase. While a member of the reinstated G.I. Joe team years later, Tracker became the first victim of the Joes' conflict with the Red Shadows. An agent of the mysterious terrorist organization approached the Joe while he was vacationing in Suva, Fiji, and shot and killed Tracker on a beach in front of several witnesses. He would be the first of a number of Joes killed by the Red Shadows.
