RUMBLER. The code name used by U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Philo R. Makepeace. Born in Fort Huachuca, Arizona, Rumbler spent time as a tractor-trailer truck driver before joining the Army, where he became experienced in driving various armored vehicles. He was eventually recruited by the G.I. Joe team to drive their huge, heavily-armed assault vehicle, the Rolling Thunder. After his first mission for the team during the Cobra civil war, he drove the Rolling Thunder when he and several other Joes fought to keep Cobra from claiming a newly-formed island not far from the original Cobra Island. They barely stopped Cobra before the entire land mass sunk back beneath the ocean. He later helped a team of Joes on a secret mission to rescue Joes and members of the October Guard being held in Sierra Gordo. He was also one of the many Joes serving in the Battle of Benzheen, the Joe team's biggest operation to date.

Though this character was called Rumbler in the comic series, he is obviously meant to be based on the action figure named Armadillo, driver of the Rolling Thunder. Confusingly, there is another figure named Rumbler that came with the Crossfire remote control vehicle.
