SGT. SAVAGE. The code name used by U.S. Army Master Sergeant Robert S. Savage, born in Albany, New York. A battle hardened veteran and heavy weapons expert, Savage has worked with the G.I. Joe team in the past. Today, like many Joes, he is a reserve member of the team. Sgt. Savage served in Algeria during the conflict known as World War III.

One of many Joes listed on World War III member assignment map first seen in AE #28.

Sgt. Savage is the lead character from the short-lived G.I. Joe toy line, Sgt. Savage and his Screaming Eagles. His first appearance is in the single episode of the toy line's cartoon, which was sold on videotape, packaged with an action figure. That episode reveals the Screaming Eagles to be a unit of the G.I. Joe team. Sgt. Savage next became a regular character in the more-successful futuristic G.I. Joe series, G.I. Joe Extreme.
