FALCON ATTACK GLIDER. The G.I. Joe team's "flying armed light reconnaissance" glider, was a reinforced military hang glider used for silent recon missions. The Falcon included two 30 caliber rapid fire mini-machine guns. The glider first saw action when the Joes defended the Alaskan oil pipeline against Cobra. (GI 11, 20)

F.A.N.G. Cobra's "fully armed negator gyro-copter" is a small single-pilot helicopter armed with a 20mm grenade launcher that carries one hundred rounds, and a complement of  four landing strut mounted, short-range air-to-air missiles. It can reach a top speed of 175 miles per hour. The helicopter's most serious design flaw is it's open cockpit, leaving the pilot easily exposed to enemy fire. The G.I. Joe team first encountered FANGs as part of Cobra's air support following a battle in Washington, DC. Even when other versions of the FANG arrived, the original model continued to be a major part of Cobra's air forces for many years, up through the Battle of Benzheen. (GI 17, 19, 24, 30, 41, 44, 47, 49, 50, 75, 87, 89, 116; YB 2; SM 1)

F.A.N.G. II. A VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) aircraft used by Cobra that was named for Cobra's original small helicopter, though it did not completely replace the older craft. The FANG II uses dual turbo-fan rotors mounted on two rotating wings. It is armed with a 20mm secto-barrel, impulse, long range cannon and can carry up to six AIMZ-33 air-to-air crusher missiles. The new FANG shared the same design flaw as the original, namely it's open cockpit. The Joes first encountered the FANG II in the nation of Sierra Gordo as part of a joint Cobra-Iron Grenadier force fighting the October Guard. A number of FANGs also took part in the Battle of Bezheen. (GI 92, 97, 100, 101, 108, 109, 110, 115; SM 26)

F.A.N.G. III. The third Cobra aircraft to bear the name FANG has more in common with the design of the original than the FANG II. It is small, single-pilot helicopter armed with a rocket launcher and twin gatling guns. The FANG III shares the same opened-cockpit design as its predecessors, but offered more protection. The FANG III was first used by the revived Cobra organization that arose several years after its first defeat at the hands of an international military force. (BF 3)

FERRET.  A small, four-wheeled ATV (all-terrain vehicle) used by Cobra. The Ferret can carry a driver and a passenger, and is armed with two laser-seeking "Com-Bat" rockets, a side-mounted 20mm cannon and twin synchronized .50 caliber machine guns. The G.I. Joe team first encountered a Ferrer being ridden by the Crimson Guard commanders, Tomax and Xamot at the Arbco Brothers Circus (a Cobra front that hid a squad of Crimson Guardsmen). Ferret were used during a number of Cobra operations including the battle to gain control of the newly-created Cobra Island and the defense of a Terror Drome base in Sierra Gordo. When Cobra secretly took control of the town of Broca Beach, a number of Ferrets were repainted and hidden in plain sight, disguised as parts of a carnival ride. The Joes' short-lived team known as Tiger Force used a vehicle based on the Ferret's design called the Tiger Paw. (GI 37, 38, 41, 43, 47, 54, 55, 56, 79, 81, 89; SM 25)

FIREBAT. A primary feature of Cobra's modular launch base was the advanced Firebat light assault jet, which took off from the base's central launch silo vertically, like a rocket. It was extremely maneuverable and could reach a maximum speed of 470 miles per hour. The Firebat included 2 twin 7.62mm variable rate-of-fire minigun with 2,000 rounds, and could carry four 100 pound demolition-type aerial mines and two 500-pound high-drag laser-guided demolition bombs. Firebats were piloted by specially-trained Air Vipers known as A.V.A.C.s, but some could be piloted remotely. The G.I. Joe team first encountered a Firebat during a recon mission to Cobra Island where the very first Terror Drome had been built. Crimson Guardsman Professor Appel set the Island's Firebat to automatically fly an unconscious Ripcord to Springfield, in the hopes the Joe would find his daughter and Ripcord's girlfriend, Candy. Firebats were a standard feature in the Terror Dromes that were sold to various countries around the world, including Sierra Gordo, Frusenland and Benzheen. (GI 46, 47, 54, 56, 58, 69, 88, 115; SM 4)

FLAGG, U.S.S.  Named for the late G.I. Joe team commander General Lawrence J. Flagg not long after his death, the U.S.S. Flagg became the primary naval support vessel for the Joe team during many of its biggest operations. Under the command of Vice Admiral Everett P. Colby, aka Keel-Haul, the aircraft carrier saw action all over the world, provding both transportation and air support. On one of its earliest missions for the Joes, the Flagg rescued the crew of the freighter Jane, after it was sunk during a Cobra fighter attack. Later,  the Flagg was nearly crippled by a tidal wave triggered by an explosion that aggravated a fault-line beneath the ocean. That same explosion led to the creation of Cobra Island. The wave washed at least one Skystriker off of the ship and left the deck tilted 30 degrees, making it dangerous for any aircraft to launch. The Joes were ordered to force Cobra off the newly-created island right away without air support. Despite the dangers, Ace insisted on attempting a takeoff and managed to get his Skystriker in the air in time to help defend the Joes on the ground. In a later mission, the Joes used the Flagg's hangar deck to study the modular components of a Cobra Terror Drome base captured in Sierra Gordo. The aircraft carrier continued to suppport the team over the next few years. During the Joe team's involvement in the Cobra Island civil war, the Flagg served as the staging area for the entire operation, as it did later during the Battle of Benzheen. Several years later, the Flagg supported the reinstated Joe team's invasion of Cobra Island during the fight against the forces of a revived Serpentor. An electromagnetic pulse knocked out all of the carrier's electronics for a time, but the pulse's affects dissipated and the Flagg returned to normal operational status. (GI 36, 40, 41, 56, 57, 73, 74, 76, 77, 115; SM 19, 23, 28; GIv2 25)

FLIGHT POD. Cobra's jet-propelled one-man flying vehicle, the Flight Pod was nicknamed the "Trubble Bubble" by members of G.I. Joe. The Flight Pod features a clear, domed canopy and can also be operated in a drone reconnaissance mode. It is armed with two Warlock LR-3.8 laser-seeking antitank missiles, a 1XM-97 mini-cannon and a SNK-7 aerial mine. The Joes first encountered Cobra Flight Pods as part of a large group of Cobra aircraft attacking the October Guard atop a train traveling through Iran. Many years later, a new version of Flight Pod was used by members of The Coil (an offshoot of Cobra serving a revived Serpentor) when attacking a convoy defended by the reinstated G.I. Joe team.
