H.A.L. The G.I. Joe team's "Heavy Artillery Laser", the HAL is a large, rotating, laser cannon. It could be towed into battle by another vehicle, and was controlled by a seated operator. The HAL was primarily operated by Grand Slam during some of the Joes' earliest missions, including the rescue of Dr. Adele Burkhart from a Caribbean island controlled by Cobra. That specific HAL was lost in an explosion that destroyed Cobra's fort. Another was destroyed when a group of Joes dropped the cannon down an elevator shaft to destroy a Cobra robot that infiltrated Joe headquarters. Other missions for the HAL included the defense of a space shuttle launch and the battle against Cobra forces along the Alaskan oil pipeline. (GI 1, 3, 8, 11)

HAMMER. A heavily-armed jeep used by the G.I. Joe team. The Hammer could seat up to four people, and was armed with a computer-controlled gun turret, two side gunner stations and a surface-to-surface missile launcher. The vehicle saw its most extensive use during the Battle of Benzheen. (GI 110, 111, 112, 114, 115, 116, 130)

HAMMERHEAD. Cobra's submersible sea tank. The Hammerhead was primarily designed to operate in the shallow coastal waters, sand, and swamp areas along the coast of Cobra Island. The vehicle included many components that could detach and operate as separate, smaller vehicles, including its command module, two sea net attack subs and two sea sled scout crafts. Armaments included two twin laser cannons and an elevating bank of missiles. The smaller vehicles were armed with missiles or torpedos, as well. In addition to its defense of Cobra Island, the Hammerhead also saw action in Trucial Abysmia. (GI 110, 123)

H.A.V.O.C. The G.I. Joe team's "Heavy Articulated Vehicle Ordnance Carrier" is more manueverable than a typical tank thanks to its separate, rotating tracks. (GI 51, 52, 59, 67, 72, 76, 77, 79, 108)
H.I.S.S. The "High Speed Sentry" tank was the primary armored vehicle used by Cobra for many years. Its tall, angular design was unique to military tanks. The HISS tank that G.I. Joe first encountered was slightly different than the more recognized model, colored in blue with a slightly different cockpit. The better-known model was colored black, and had a large transparent canopy that held a single driver. The tank's drivers were specially trained Cobra troops dressed in red uniforms. The HISS had a maximum speed of 275 miles per hour and was armed with turrent-mounted twin "Diablo" 30mm area fire automatic guns that carried 2,000 rounds each. Its highly advanced electronics included low level light and infrared scanners, as well as micro-resolution radar.  The earliest HISS tanks saw action against the Joes during an attack on the Alaskan oil pipeline and later in a battle in Washington, DC. During that battle, Hawk climbed onto the command HISS and fought Destro before being shot by Cobra Commander. The tanks continued to be involved in many major operations like the defense of the newly-created Cobra Island and the Battle of Springfield. During the Cobra civil war, Serpentor personally led a column of HISS tanks alongside the Joe team, who allied with him against the forces of Cobra Commander. After overrunning the Commander's lines and capturing the Baroness, Serpentor strapped the Baroness across the front of his HISS, looking to some witnesses like something out of an ancient war. Despite the introduction of the HISS II years later, the original HISS continued to serve Cobra for many years. (GI 11, 16-19, 28, 30, 37, 41, 44, 46-50, 52, 64, 68, 73-76, 81, 89, 99, 139, 141, 144, 154; YB 2, 4; OB 4; SM 2)

H.I.S.S. II. The predecessor to Cobra's first primary armored vehicle, the HISS II's design shared similarities with the original tank. It's upgraded main turret was armed with a tri-barrelled, thermal propulsion XTX-a20b cannon. It's additional armaments included two 100mm armor-piercing laser machine guns and two surface hovering, no-noise, multi-warhead "Slam" missiles. HISS II's were primarily driven by Cobra's Track-Vipers. The tanks helped take control of the small town of Millville and went on to serve in the Battle of Benzheen. Many years later, the revived Cobra organization introduced an all-new model known as the Strike HISS. (GI 97, 100, 101, 103, 108-111, 113, 121, 130, 137, 141)

H.I.S.S. IV. (see STRIKE HISS).

HOVERCRAFT. (see KILLER W.H.A.L.E.)

HURRICANE. A VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) fighter jet used by Cobra. The jet was armed with two 75mm cannons and could carry up to ten air-to-surface missiles. The Hurricane also included a detachable VTE-490 pilotless fighter/interceptor attack drone, that carried its own missile. The Hurricane saw its first, most extensive use during the Battle of Benzheen. (GI 110, 115-117)

HYDRO-SLED. A small, two-man water craft designed by Dr. Mindbender and used by Cobra to defend the waters around Cobra Island. Hydro-sleds were primarily used by Cobra Eel divers, and were armed with a rapid-fire 9mm cannon, a "Snag" wire-guided spear gun and two-optically guided "Sunk" torpedoes. The new Hydro-sleds arrived via transport helicopter with Dr. Mindbender as he first-landed on Cobra Island.  The sleds were immediately put into action in battle against a team from G.I. Joe sent to rescue Snake-Eyes from the Island. (GI 47)
